MOUNTAIN CENTER — Two people were hurt when a big rig and silver SUV collided Saturday, January 27 on Highway 74 near Mountain Center, in the Idyllwild National Forest, authorities said.
It was reported about 7:15 p.m., Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.
Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to free one patient from a vehicle, Hagemann said.
Hagemann said two people suffered moderate injuries and that one was airlifted to a hospital while the other was taken to a hospital by ground ambulance.
According to CHP at the scene, the driver of the SUV attempted to pass in the opposite lane of traffic when it collided head on with the truck. It was also mentioned that one of the patients was in critical condition.
