Hemet: Two Killed in Fiery Head on Collision

hpdHEMET –  On 09-29-2017 at about 4:50 a.m., two motorists were killed in a head on collision on Stetson Avenue, between Cawston Ave and Warren Rd.

The driver of a 2016 Dodge Dart, traveling eastbound on Stetson Ave at approximately 60 mph, for unknown reasons drifted into the westbound lanes and collided head on with a Toyota Corolla.

Due to the collision, the Dodge Dart caught fire.  Hemet Firefighters extinguished the flames quickly but both drivers were declared deceased at the scene.

The identity of the victims is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.

Traffic Collision Kills Two

On Friday, September 29th 2017 at about 4:49 AM, Hemet Police Officers responded to a traffic collision which occurred on Stetson Avenue between Warren Road and Cawston Avenue.

Officers arrived on scene and learned a 2016 Dodge Dart had collided head-on into a 2015 Toyota Corolla.

The collision killed both drivers and both were pronounced dead at the scene. The Riverside County Coroner has not positively identified either driver, therefore, their names are not being released.

Traffic investigators were called to the scene and learned the driver of the Dodge Dart was traveling east on Stetson Avenue, east of Warren Road, at about 55 to 60 miles per hour.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla was traveling west on Stetson Avenue, approaching Warren Road at about 50 to 55 miles per hour. The driver of the Dodge drifted into the oncoming west bound lane and collided with the Toyota head-on.

It is not known what caused the driver to drift into oncoming traffic, and the investigation is ongoing.

Stetson Avenue was closed between Warren Road and Cawston Avenue for approximately four hours while the collision investigation was conducted.
