RIVERSIDE – On September 22, 2017 at about 3:30 a.m., a crash occurred on the I-215 southbound just north of Box Springs Road that left one victim in critical condition.
Motorists who witnessed the crash and reported it to 911 dispatchers advised that a while attempting to avoid a car, a collision involving multiple vehicles occurred with a black 2009 Nissan Sentra rear ending a semi-truck and remaining wedged underneath it.
Riverside Fire Department responded immediately and due to the severity of the incident, a heavy rescue with expedited physical extrication was requested.
Upon arrival of CHP, officers set up a hard closure of the I-215 south at Central Ave. After establishing a scene, officers reopened the HOV and the number 2 lane, allowing for traffic to slowly flow through.
Riverside Fire Department quickly extricated the unresponsive driver of the Nissan stuck underneath the semi-truck and transported the victim to a local trauma center in critical condition.
The occupants of the other two vehicles involved in the crash and the driver of the semi were uninjured.
At the moment the cause of the collision is still under investigation and the condition of the injured party is unknown. An update will be released in the future when addition information becomes available.
