*UPDATE* Moreno Valley: Deputy Involved Shooting Suspect Arrested

San Bernardino County Sheriff Deputies were conducting an investigation which led them to the city of Moreno Valley.

When deputies approached the suspect in front of a residence at the location, a deputy involved shooting occurred.

On Thursday, September 21, 2017, investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, working in conjunction with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Gang Intelligence Team, developed leads which led to the location of the outstanding suspect in the deputy involved shooting which occurred Wednesday, September 20, 2017, in Moreno Valley.

The suspect, identified as Raymond Vaughn, 33 of San Bernardino, was located and arrested without incident in the 2000 block of Ostrems Way, San Bernardino.

Vaughn did not sustain injury as a result of this incident and he was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center (RPDC) in Riverside with the following charges:

  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer
  • Resisting an Executive Officer
  • Four counts of Prison Priors

The investigation is on-going and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Investigator Manjarrez with the Riverside County Sheriff Department’s Central Homicide Unit at (760) 393-3530.



No injuries to law enforcement personnel or civilians were reported. San Bernardino County Sheriffs requested the assistance of Riverside County Sheriffs central homicide unit who responded and have assumed the investigation.

The suspect fled the scene and an active investigation being conducted by Riverside Sheriffs is active and ongoing. More information will be added in an update as details emerge.

On Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at approximately 3:00 PM, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Gang Intelligence Team were conducting a follow-up investigation in the 26000 block of Scott Victor Circle, located within the city of Moreno Valley.

Deputies attempted to contact the suspect and a deputy involved shooting occurred. The suspect has not been located and no deputies were injured.

Due to this incident occurring in the city of Moreno Valley, and taking into consideration jurisdictional boundaries, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department requested the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department conduct an independent investigation of the incident.

Investigators from the Moreno Valley Police Department and the Riverside County Sheriff Department’s Central Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending the on-going investigation.

The deputy involved in this incident will not be identified at this time.
