MORENO VALLEY: At approximately 4:30 a.m., Cal Fire Riverside County responded to a solo vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of Sunnymead Boulevard and Frederick Street.

Arriving crews located a single vehicle with major damage, crashed into a traffic sign in the westbound lanes of the 23000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard, in front of a Shell gas station.

According to witnesses, the vehicle crashed into a pole coming off the CA-60 off ramp at high speed, caught fire and proceeded to travel fully engulfed on the sidewalk of westbound Sunnymead Blvd, until it crashed into the traffic sign.

Bystanders attempted to help and one man pulled at least one victim out of the burning wreckage while another witnesses put the fire out with an extinguisher and also did what they could to assist.

A total of at least three occupants were in the vehicle. The victims suffered at least moderate injuries and were transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

The incident is still under investigation by Riverside County Sheriffs who have at least determined that the vehicle was traveling at high speed prior to the collision. It’s unknown at the time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
