On Saturday, July 22, 2017 at approximately 4:30 a.m., Cal Fire together with Riverside County Fire responded to a commercial fire alarm in the 21800 block of Rider Street in Mead Valley, an unincorporated area near Perris. When arriving on scene, crews located a church with flames showing from he roof of he structure.
The flames were reported coming from the roof of the 1,000-square-foot structure at 4:28 a.m. in the 21800 block of Rider Street, according to Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department.
Due to the size of the fire, crews began with a defensive scenario before beginning to attack the fire. Power lines were also at risk of falling, electrifying the fence surrounding the property. Knockdown of the fire was finally achieved a approximately 6:00 a.m.
It’s unclear what caused the fire at the moment, when knockdown of the fire will be achieved and how long mop up operations will take. Nobody was inside the church at the time the fire began and no injuries have been reported.
