Beaumont: On Monday, June 26, 2017, at approximately 3:10 p.m., Cal Fire responded to a vegetation fire in the area of Lambs Canyon (Highway 79 N) Near Dump Road. When arriving on scene, crews located a brush fire of approximately 50 acres and with a rapid spread.
CHP advised drivers to take alternative routes due to a hard closure in place between Beaumont and Gilman Springs. At 11:45 p.m. the fire had grown to 5000 acres with only 10% containment. This article will be updated as the situation continues to develop.

UPDATE 1:40 p.m. 06/27/2017: Evacuation Warnings remain in place for Highland Home Road, east to Highway 243 and to include the communities of Poppet Flats, Silent Valley, Mt. Edna and Twin Pines. Acreage and containment remain the same at 5800 acres and 20% contained.
UPDATE 6/30/17 @ 6:00 p.m. – The fire 100% contained to 6,309 acres.

UPDATE 6/30/17 @ 6:00 p.m. – The fire 100% contained to 6,309 acres. UPDATE 6/30/17 @ 7:00 a.m. – The fire remains at 6,309 acres and is 98% contained. UPDATE 6/29/17 @ 6:30 p.m. – The fire remains at 6,309 acres and is now 90% contained. Unless significant activity occurs, the next update will be tomorrow morning.
06/26/2017 11:45 P.M. The Manzanita Fire is now 5000 acres and 10% contained. Highway 79 southbound lanes are re-opened and northbound is limited to one lane. This will be the final update for this evening. Unless significant activity dictates otherwise, the next update will be posted tomorrow morning.
UPDATE 06/26/2017 9:30 P.M.: No change in acreage,. Fire remains 1200 acres and is now 10% contained. Highway 243 is open and Highway 79 (Lambs Canyon) remains closed. For updates on road conditions, visit the CHP website at www.chp.ca.gov. Evacuation warnings remain in place for Highland Home Road, east to Highway 243 including the communities of Poppet Flats and Silent Valley. The next update will be tomorrow morning unless significant activity on the fire dictates otherwise.
UPDATE 06/26/2017 6:30 P.M.: EVACUATION WARNING ISSUED FOR HIGHLAND HOME ROAD EAST TO HIGHWAY 243, WHICH INCLUDES THE COMMUNITIES OF POPPET FLATS AND SILENT VALLEY.
UPDATE 6:15 P.M. The fire is now 1200 acres and 0% contained. The cause of the fire was determined to be the result of a traffic collision with fire. Two patients were transported to area hospitals with unknown extent of injuries.
UPDATE 5:40 P.M.: The Manzanita Fire is now 500 acres and 0% contained. Lambs Canyon Road (Highway 79 N) remains closed in both directions).

Over 300 firefighters continue to battle the Manzanita Fire by air and ground.
UPDATE 5:00 p.m.: The fire is approximately 250 acres and 0% contained. Multiple agencies assisting CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department: Corona City FD, Murrieta FPD, Riverside City FD, Idyllwild FPD, Palm Springs FD, March Reserve Base FD, San Bernardino County FD, Hemet FD, Riverside County Emergency Management Department.

UPDATE 3:55 P.M. The fire is now approximately 125 acres with 0% containment. Motorists should consult the CHP website for alternate routes due to the closure of Highway 79 N (Lambs Canyon) between Gilman Springs and Beaumont.
UPDATE 3:30 P.M.: Approximately 30 acres burning on the west side of Highway 79 and 50 acres burning on the east side of Highway 79. Hard closure of Highway 79 between Beaumont and Gilman Springs in place.
CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters are on scene of a wildland fire in Lambs Canyon, south of Beaumont. The fire is currently 50 + acres burning at a critical rate. CHP requested to close Highway 79 in both directions at Gilman Springs. Updates will be posted as information becomes available.
