RIVERSIDE: On Monday June 6, 2017 at approximately 3:30 a.m. Riverside Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at Cole Avenue and Caledonia Drive.
The driver of the vehicle failed to yield and pulled into the driveway of a residence where he exited the car and ignored officers commands, getting back into the vehicle, pulled out of the driveway in reverse and proceeded to lead officers on a short pursuit.
The suspect, Jeffrey Scott Kibbe, 27, resident of Nuevo, eventually stopped and foot bailed when he arrived at a dead end street.
Followed by officers, Kibbe ran jumping fences until he reached a USA Gas Station located in a shopping center at Van Buren Boulevard and Trautwein Boulevard.
A man at the station was carjacked by Kibbe but the victim fought back as the suspect attempted to flee with his vehicle. The scuffle resulted in the victim remaining pinned between a gas pump and his car. Kibbe took the victim’s cellphone and attempted to flee but officers were still on the chase.
After Kibbe threw the cellphone at a pursuing officer, he stopped running but continued to disobey officer commands to the point that a taser deployment was necessary to take him into custody.
Riverside Fire Department was dispatched at the location to extricate the victim wedged between the gas pump and his own vehicle. The victim was transported by medical to a local hospital with minor injuries and Kibbes was also transported for medical evaluation due to the taser deployment.
After medically cleared, Kibbes was booked into jail with charges for assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer, evading police, carjacking, robbery, resisting arrest using violence, and violation of Post-Release Community Supervision.
