On April 22, 2017 at approximately 4:30 am, a motorist drove off the SR57 near the exit to Katella Ave, going off the roadway into the embankment and crashing into a large tree. The car burst into flames upon impact but fortunately the driver was able to free himself from the vehicle.
Upon arrival, Anaheim Fire Department quickly extinguished the flames while CHP provided assistance with traffic control on the freeway. The victim was transported to the hospital by ground ambulance appearing to suffer only minor injuries.
The knockdown of the fire took less than 15 minutes and at this time it’s still unclear what caused the driver to veer off into the embankment or if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
