From Riverside Police Department Press Release:
FATAL INJURY TRAFFIC COLLISION
On Monday, February 20, 2017 at approximately 2:14 a.m., the City of Riverside Emergency Dispatch center received multiple calls of a single vehicle collision into a tree on University Avenue west of Eucalyptus Avenue. Riverside Police and Fire personnel arrived at the scene and located a 2011 Chevy Impala with major damage to the vehicle.
It appears due to the initial investigation, the Chevy was being driven by a 31-year-old resident of Desert Hot Springs eastbound on University Avenue when it left the roadway and collided with two trees and a light pole. The driver was transported to Riverside Community Hospital with significant injuries. The right front and sole passenger of the vehicle, a 31-year-old resident of Moreno Valley, was transported to Riverside Community Hospital with major injuries. The passenger later succumbed to his injuries. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the collision.
The Riverside Police Departments Major Accident Investigation Team responded and is currently investigating. The passenger’s identity is pending the coroner’s investigation.
