Homeland: Fire at Tire Shop During Morning Hours Contained in Minutes

calfireSaturday morning at about 3:57 am, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire responded to a commercial structure fire involving a tire shop at the 31000 block of Highway 74 in Homeland, CA. While the amount of resources deployed made it seem as if the building was fully engulfed in flames, the fire was discovered to be contained to the exterior of the shop and extinguished within minutes.

Considering the possibility of a fully engulfed structure with multiple stacks of tires surrounding the area, several fire trucks, a ladder truck and a breathing support truck was deployed in preparation for the worse. The thick black smoke released by burning tires can be quite toxic and the flames can burn for quite a long time, be intense and damaging to the environment.

Fortunately, upon arrival, firefighters determined that the flames were not particularly alarming in size and extinguished the fire in less than 20 minutes. The structure suffered roof and external damages estimated to be around $10.000.
