Thursday, October 13, 2016 close to 8:00 pm. Multiple 911 calls began flooding in regarding a shooting that occurred on the 41700 block of Marine Dr, in East Hemet. According to callers, the man was approached by another who shot at him in the head, leaving the scene in vehicle that left the scene in an unknown direction.
Hemet Police and San Jacinto Police responded to the call and located the victim laying in the middle of the street and unresponsive. He was immediately evacuated by medical but unfortunately succumbed from his injuries.
The incident was declared a homicide. Officers and detectives remained on scene until the next morning hours conducting an investigation into the shooting. The individual responsible for the crime, Marquis Dorsey, 23 and a Hemet resident, turned himself over to police at the Hemet Police Department main station.
At this moment the name of the victim is being withheld until the next of kin is notified. Dorsey was arrested and booked for investigation of murder. Witnesses at the scene were already discussing the incident over social media moments after it happened. Some say they allegedly saw the shooter exit the vehicle he was in, walk up to the victim and shoot him in the face. The suspect even paused for a moment to make sure the victim was dead before leaving the scene.
Family members of the victim also were expressing their emotion online, something that made it pretty clear moments after the shooting that the victim, did indeed die. As of this moment this incident is pending a full investigation and further details will be released as they become available. On Thursday, October 13, 2016, at 7:57 PM, deputies from the Hemet Sheriff’s Station responded to the 41700 block of Marine Drive, in the unincorporated area of Hemet, for a report of gunfire with at least one person injured on the street. Deputies arrived and found a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators from the Hemet Sheriff’s Station and the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. Investigators identified Marquis Dorsey 23 years, of Hemet, as the suspect in the incident. Shortly thereafter, Dorsey walked into the Hemet Police Department and surrendered to authorities. Dorsey was ultimately arrested and booked for investigation of murder. The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.
